More than 100 years in San Antonio
Rilling Leather Company remains one of San Antonio's oldest family-owned businesses. Current owners Art and Sandy Grasso represent the fourth generation of Rillings to run the store.
Originally a leather and findings business established by German immigrant Johann Heinrich (Henry) Rilling, Rilling not only supplied all the tools and goods needed to make boots and shoes, but also made and sold retail shoes. An original sales poster modeling shoes of the late nineteenth century hangs in our store. As time passed, Rilling concentrated exclusively on its business as a wholesale supplier to shoe, boot, and saddle makers. In 1991, Rilling moved to its current location and focused its business on providing the highest quality shoe repair craftsmanship and service in San Antonio.
Among the many items remaining from the company's long history are several antique tools for shoemaking, sales fliers following a flood of the San Antonio River in the early 1900's, and ledgers from the company's early years on Commerce Street. Art and Sandy maintain a display case of these items to share with their customers. Stop by and look the next time you're in.
